Lost & Found
Stray and abandoned animals are picked up by shelter staff or brought into the shelter by concerned citizens within the city limits of Richland, Pasco and Kennewick, WA. All animals that come to the shelter are checked for a microchip and evaluated for injury and disease.
Call the shelter to report that your pet is lost. The staff keeps a lost & found log. You will need to check the shelter and lost and found log daily for your pet. Since animal descriptions are subjective, it is best for owners to come to the shelter in person. There is a bulletin board in the shelter for lost and found animal pictures. The shelter holds each animal for 3 business days to give the owners a chance to claim their pet. The animal is then put up for adoption. The shelter can only accept cash for redemption fees. Fees can be found in the “animal” section of each city’s municipal code. Each city varies. In rare cases, an animal may be humanely euthanized due to aggression or severe injury or illness.
If your pet is lost and you think they may be at Tri-Cities Animal Shelter, you must come into the shelter during business hours to identify the pet in person. You will then be given an estimate of the redemption fees, which must be paid in cash. Some people may send a friend or family member to identify their pet – this is OK, but the redemption fees will only be given to the pet’s owner. Once the pet is identified, most people have to leave the facility to collect the cash fees and return to the shelter. Included in the redemption fees are impound fees, boarding fees, vaccines (DA2PV and Bordatella for dogs, RCP for cats), a microchip and for dogs from Pasco, a city license. Kennewick, Pasco and Richland pet owners will be required to produce proof of Rabies vaccination for their pet within 10 days of redeeming them.
